I seem to be reaching a saturation point. I have been online, reading about tagging and social bookmarking; looking into Del.icio.us and Technorati; exploring the SJLibraryLearning2 account and reading more about Del.icio.us and other social bookmarking tools . . . and more . . . and more. With every click on a link, I have access to a thousand other links. This is not like being assigned to read three chapters from the college textbook and then analyze and evaluate . . . I can't seem to stop the reading and get to the writing. It has taken me all week to come back to my Blog to write this, and I'm not really even addressing the simple question put to me, "how can I take advantage of these tags and bookmarks in my library?"
I realize one of the most important thing about these tags is that they are peer-driven, and students might be able to find information more quickly if they can search a subject using terms they are familiar with, rather than the traditional LOC subject headings.

Week 5 Thing 12
I have been to Rollyo and created an account. I wanted to add the Library of Congress and the Orange County Public Library to the list of reference sites that were already there. The OCPL site was added, but not the LOC. I just copied and pasted the URL from the sites in the same way, so I don't know why one would come through and not the other. Then I tried make Rollyo accessable from my blog . . . I added it to the link list along with my RSS, but I don't see it on the page. Will continue playing around with it later.

Week 5 Things 10 and 11
I went to Image Chef to experiment with and generate some images. It had lots of cute templates to choose from. I especially liked the ones that were animated, and added an image of waves lapping at the sand to my blog. I also emailed my husband a tree with our names carved into the trunk. I think these are wonderful tools, very attention-grabbing, that will add excitement and interest to my school's library website.
I also checked out the short list of Web 2.0 Award Winners, and ended up at Library Thing. It is so perfect for me! I tend to read a book for enjoyment, and so quickly that three months later I might not remember anything about it, even if I liked it at the time. Library Thing lets me quickly add the books I've read to my personal list, and has a picture of the cover, tags (like subject headings,) and a short summary already available. It also gives me a list of other books like it that I might also enjoy, and I can read what other members have to say about the book. (That will come in handy if I'm trying to decide on whether or not to buy a book for the library.) Now I can easily go back and remind myself about what I have read. This is a great site.

Week 4 Thing 8 Exercise 3
I have been taking my time getting back to the computer this summer . . . but I have read all about personalized RSS feeds, and set up my own on Bloglines.com. I also added the link to the bottom of my Kraemer Library Blog, but I'm not sure if the link will take me someone directly to my RSS Feeds page without having to log on.
I like the convenience of having all my favorite sites right at my fingertips when I use the RSS reader, and I like being able to use the link at the bottom of my Kraemer Library Blog instead of typing two different addresses into the browser (although I have put both sites into My Favorites.) It is certainly a more efficient way to keep up with library-related sites at work, and will allow me to better manage the time I spend on the computer trying to keep abreast of book reviews, new research sites for students and teachers, etc. I could also include some of the book review and research sites geared to the Middle School-aged readers, and be sure students know how to access the Kraemer Library Blog and get to the RSS feeds.

Straightening the shelves
Week 3, Things 6 and 7
It has been interesting finding out about mashups and looking at sites like the Flickr Color Pickr and Montagr. I liked the option at Flickr Color Pickr that allowed me to click on a flower and color, and then showed many different types of flowers in that color tone . . . it would have been a valuable tool to show brides when I was doing wedding flowers. I made a Trading Card for myself with this picture on it at http://flagrantdisregard.com/flickr/deck.php but I couldn't upload it to Flickr to post it to my blog. It turned out very cute, but perhaps the file was to big to be uploaded. I'm never sure why things won't happen like I expect them to, and that is frustrating.

Week 3 Thing 5 - Flowers for my desk
I have 20 minutes to go before school's out for summer! I thought I'd try my hand at posting a picture to my blog from flickr, but the only pictures I have of the library have students in them, and it's too late to get thier permission to use their photos. So . . . I am posting a picture of the flowers I would love to have on my desk right now.
