I seem to be reaching a saturation point. I have been online, reading about tagging and social bookmarking; looking into Del.icio.us and Technorati; exploring the SJLibraryLearning2 account and reading more about Del.icio.us and other social bookmarking tools . . . and more . . . and more. With every click on a link, I have access to a thousand other links. This is not like being assigned to read three chapters from the college textbook and then analyze and evaluate . . . I can't seem to stop the reading and get to the writing. It has taken me all week to come back to my Blog to write this, and I'm not really even addressing the simple question put to me, "how can I take advantage of these tags and bookmarks in my library?"
I realize one of the most important thing about these tags is that they are peer-driven, and students might be able to find information more quickly if they can search a subject using terms they are familiar with, rather than the traditional LOC subject headings.

You hit the nail on the head. People can search by terms that they actually use. However, the dark side is that they can also tag items with socially unacceptable terms. What to do, what to do...
Congratulations on sticking with the assignment. The ever expanding links can get you caught in the web.
What I like about del.icio.us is seeing who else has saved what I have saved. I have found a wealth of information on very specific subjects, just by clicking on someone elses tags. Try clicking on the field save by 1309 people and see what you come up with.
I am right there with you. I have been clicking and reading, clicking and reading, etc. However, I don't think that our district is going to allow filters to be lifted for this site. There is too much potential for problems with students accessing inappropriate information. They are not going to want to tackle any potential litigation issues. I am fighting to get access to Flickr and some of the earlier sites we investigated.
I know what you mean, about reading on and on. That's why i've avoided blogs and YouTube. Thank goodness for this "class" which guiedes us through and keeps us on task. It helped to have a deadline too; our district was supposed to finish by Sept 1, and I just made it (finished yesterday), so now I get to go and look at what others, like you, are doing. Keep it up, but maybe limit yourself in time or number of sites you will click on. I know it's hard not to keep going. I took twice as many hours as I'd allotted myself.
